Idea Napkin No. 2

I am a very organized and ambitious person. I love getting new projects to work on, and like getting things done. I plan on getting into the art industry because I would like to work for galleries and museums. I don’t see this business idea as being very relevant to what I want to do career-wise, however, since I am just in college right now, it’s something that I would definitely use at this point in my life. I am offering a scooter rental service that rents scooters to commuting students on a daily/weekly basis. Instead of wasting time trying to park cars on campus or waiting for buses, students will be able to schedule in advance what days they will need the scooter to get to campus. This will ensure a more time efficient way of commuting. This service would be offered to students and staff who don’t want to waste time searching for on campus parking and/or waiting on buses throughout the day. They would live off campus and have a general dislike for wasting time. Customers wo...

Create a Customer Avatar

My customer avatar would definitely be something like your average college student. They live off campus in an apartment with a few of their friends, not too far from campus, perhaps 2 miles away at the most. They usually take the bus to get to classes but spend their time waiting for the bus wishing they were already on campus. They would probably be involved in a few different student organizations that could be anything from academic clubs or social organizations. Their class schedule (and social schedule) might be a bit all over the place so they rely on different ways to get around campus. They religiously check the RTS app to see how long they have to wait for buses to take them home, while also thinking about how much they hate the traffic on Archer Road. I have a lot in common with the customer avatar that I created. I live off campus, am part of different organizations, rely on different ways of getting to campus, and dislike wasting time. I don’t ...

Elevator Pitch No. 2

Image
A lot of the feedback I received on my first elevator pitch was positive. People liked my tone and how I presented my information, and that it was simple yet informative. One person said I had a good hook so I decided to stick with it. That specific feedback about the hook helped me out a lot because it originally took me a very long time to come up with a hook that was interesting yet relevant to the opportunity I had chosen. I honestly did not change a lot from my first elevator pitch. I think it did a good job of getting the necessary information across and in a simple way. I did work on making it more natural; I feel like the first one I did came across as too rehearsed.

What's Your Secret Sauce?

1)  Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.  What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list. Independence - I would definitely say that I am an independent person. Even when I was a kid, I didn't like getting help from people. I like to show to myself and others that I am perfectly capable of achieving things with my own abilities if I need to.  Creativity - I've always had an eye for design and an appreciation for art. Painting is one of my hobbies and I just enjoy crafting things in general. I think that having this appreciation for creativity helps me to be more open to different ideas because I am used to the range of options in art. It also gives me an advantage in projects that require more creative or artsy aspects.  Humor - I think humor is extremely important. It helps you relate to people, even if you don't know them that well. This can be very important when you...

Halfway Reflection

1)  Tenaciousness is a competency. There are a lot of assignments in this course, which I don't mind, but I've been using my time management skills to keep up with them. A few of them require more than just writing blog posts, so I've made it a point to plan ahead for my assignments the week before.  2)  Tenaciousness is also about attitude.  I had a really stressful point in the semester about three weeks ago when I was trying to prepare for my ACG2021 exam while managing my other classes. It was really difficult to try and make time for everything, especially because I had a club volleyball tournament down in Orlando that weekend, which took up about two days of my time. What got me through was knowing that if I powered through it all, it would feel a lot better once the exam was over and I didn't have as many things going on. I feel like I have always been a bit tenacious but this class has definitely helped me develop that even more because of the ways tha...

Reading Reflection

1) You read about an entrepreneur: What surprised me most about Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel was that throughout her whole life, she spent a lot of time trying to hide her past and upbringing.  I most admired her ambition and ability to create something that she wanted for herself. At one point in the story, her guarantor told her that her business wasn't exactly making profit and that became the turning point at which she really put herself into her work so that it would be successful.  It's hard to say because I really admire Gabrielle's personality as a whole, but there were instances in which she wasn't quite on the same page as her employees. For example, if they made a dress and she didn't quite like it, her employees would vent about how she didn't know as much about dress-making technique which was frustrating for them with some of her designs.  The biggest adversity in Gabrielle's life was her childhood. She virtually grew up as an orphan ...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

My first interview was with a friend I was riding the bus with to campus. After explaining to him the idea of my service, and I asked him what aspects would influence his interest in it. He said that price would be the biggest factor. He said that he would want different price options so that he could see what would be the most cost-efficient for him. In terms of purchasing, he said he would rather do it online so that he doesn't need to go anywhere. In evaluating the service, he said that he would be satisfied with it as long as it met his expectations of getting him to campus on time. My second interview was with one of my neighbors who drives to campus. She picked her alternatives based on how well this service would fit her personal schedule. Like the person in my first interview, she also said that she would prefer to purchase online. She said the only reason that she would consider her purchase "bad" is if it didn't do what she expected, or if it didn't me...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

The specific segment I'm picking is students who live off campus and don't have cars, so they rely on the bus systems to get to campus. The first person in this segment that I interviewed lives at The Ridge, which is about 1.5 miles away from campus. He doesn't have a car, so you would think that he would take the buses to campus. However, he hates having to wait for the bus when they're not guaranteed to be at his house at a certain time. So his solution to this is to take an Uber to campus. Now obviously this isn't the most cost-efficient way to get to campus; it can cost an average of $20 to get to campus and back in one day. I asked why if he has thought of searching for other ways to get to campus and he said that the Uber is just convenient and money isn't really an object for him. The second person I interviewed is a third year student who rides his bike to campus everyday. I asked him when he first started riding his bike to campus and he said his ...

Idea Napkin No. 1

1)  You.  I am a very organized and ambitious person; people who know me well would say I have a "fiery" personality. This helps a lot when I am heading projects, whether its for school or work. I'm a Business Administration major and I plan on specializing in Art History. Since I want to get into the industry behind museums and galleries, I don't see this business idea as being super relevant to what I want to do. However, if I did start it, it would be really good experience to have in terms of project management.  2)  What are you offering to customers?  I'm offering a scooter rental service that rents scooters to commuting students on a daily/weekly basis. Instead of wasting time trying to park cars on campus or waiting for buses, students will be able to schedule in advance what days they will need the scooter to get to campus. This will ensure that they have a more time efficient way of commuting.  3)  Who are you offering it to?  ...
