Create a Customer Avatar

My customer avatar would definitely be something like your average college student. They live off campus in an apartment with a few of their friends, not too far from campus, perhaps 2 miles away at the most. They usually take the bus to get to classes but spend their time waiting for the bus wishing they were already on campus. They would probably be involved in a few different student organizations that could be anything from academic clubs or social organizations. Their class schedule (and social schedule) might be a bit all over the place so they rely on different ways to get around campus. They religiously check the RTS app to see how long they have to wait for buses to take them home, while also thinking about how much they hate the traffic on Archer Road.

I have a lot in common with the customer avatar that I created. I live off campus, am part of different organizations, rely on different ways of getting to campus, and dislike wasting time. I don’t think this is a coincidence because I came up with my opportunity/business idea based on the inconveniences caused by commuting and lack of parking that I experience in my own life.

    Hey Olivia,

    Great job on describing your prototypical customer! I think you nailed it on the head by saying they live off campus, spend a lot of time tracking bus routes and are involved in some organizations. Its not surprising that you have had these frustrations as well. Your business idea started on solving the problem you experiences, and you've seen an opportunity to expand it to other similar individuals. Great job! I would've liked to see a customized avatar though!

Venture Concept No. 2

Opportunity: From my interviews, I found that commuting students spend about 45 minutes to an hour everyday waiting for buses and trying to find parking on campus. This adds up to an average of four hours every week that students waste by commuting.  A lot of commuting students (and staff) dislike having to allot that much time everyday for commuting issues. They feel like they could be using that time to be more productive. Basically, they need a more efficient way of getting to campus that wastes the minimum amount of time. The reason this problem exists is due to traffic that causes buses to not be on schedule along with the fact that the amount of parking available to students on campus is lacking. Reading Reflection No. 2

 Then general theme of the book was finding success in the numerous failures that happen in life.  In my opinion, this book coincided a lot with the discussion of tenacity in this class. In one chapter titled "Passion is Bullshit," Adams discusses the controversy of passion being the key to success as most people think it is. He elaborated on how with each failure and success of his different ventures, his level of passion changed every time. I think this goes hand in hand with tenacity. If you are starting a project or business, your levels of motivation and passion are bound to fluctuate, and you need to be tenacious enough to work through them and see past it.  If I had to design an exercise based on this book, it would involve students coming up with a business idea based on something they hate.
