Solving the Problem

The problem I identified in my previous assignment was that commuting students and staff have to allot unnecessary time to find parking on campus and/or catch buses that don't run on schedule, just so they won't be late. Often this time that is wasted wastes from a half hour to over an hour. In my interviews, I found that students with scooters did not experience these issues nearly as much as people who commute via car or bus.

With that, my solution to this problem would be a daily scooter rental service. This service would offer scooter rentals on a day-by-day basis with the ability to preset which days you need it during the week. For example, if a student knows that they will only be commuting to campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, they would have the option to prepay and reserve a scooter every week for the semester on those days. Other scooter rentals do exist, but they are only on a monthly rental basis, not daily. By having a more flexible rental schedule, people would have more access to a reliable and quick way to get to campus that doesn't waste as much time as taking a car or bus does.

  1. Hey Olivia!
Good job on your post! This is a problem that many students in UF are always encountering and it is really annoying that is hard to park around campus. This solution was something that I wouldn't have thought about, but it is very interesting and something new to bring to the table! The only problem about this is that it can cause a safety issue that maybe UFPD would have to approve. But other than that I really liked this idea!

  2. Hey Olivia,

Great job on your opportunity identification. Owning a car myself, I understand how annoying it is to find parking on campus, and it often resulted in me being late. I think your solution is very inventive, and would be something a lot of students would use. You would have to consider that it would have to be economically feasible for students and cheaper than buying a second hand scooter. But good luck with this idea, I really like it!!

  3. Hey Olivia! Great post about your opportunity and how to solve the problem. That sounds like such a good idea. The only thing that this would propose is even more scooter traffic around campus. This means that the already full scooter parking would become even more full. If UF also expanded scooter parking spaces then this would be an amazing fix to the transportation issue and parking at UF.
