Entrepreneurship Story

Last year I worked as a summer camp counselor for the YMCA in my hometown. All new counselors had to attend training sessions to prepare us before we actually started running the camp. Our training often consisted of playing camp games and going through safety policies, but one time our supervisor gave us an entrepreneurial task to create any ideal item for camp counselors. My partner and I came up with the ultimate backpack which had everything necessary for a day at summer camp, including a first aid pocket, built in fan, built in walkie talkie, and super comfortable straps amongst other features. We did it as a competition against other counselors, and our idea ended up winning.

I enrolled in ENT 3003 as I needed to take a business elective and the course description was appealing to me. I've always had an interest in entrepreneurship and was curious to see how this course could help me understand it better.

  1. Hey Olivia!
I really enjoyed reading about your story and how you were encountered with this amazing opportunity. People nowadays think that any opportunity will just be handed to them, but I believe you should go out here and see what opportunities are out there for you and make the most out of it. I also joined this class wanting to see what is out there in the business world. Awesome post!

  2. Hi Olivia!
That is a really cool story. With how many cool things we have available to us in this generation, I think it is really hard to think of something that someone has never thought of nowadays. That camp sounds like a really cool way to learn and get to know others. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hey Olivia.
I found your entrepreneurship story to be really fascinating. The best part about it was that you had competition against other counselors but based off the same idea. It must have been pretty awesome to have come up with the best backpack idea for a camping trip. To me the idea was really great and something I would want to buy if I want on a camping trip!
